BLUE HORIZONS / LEARNING

Safer water
starts at home.

Water can become contaminated after collection. Safe handling and clean storage help protect the quality of household drinking water.

Keep collection and storage containers clean

Use clean containers and keep stored drinking water covered. Avoid practices that introduce dirt into the container during transport, storage or serving.

Protect water after collection

Safe household handling is part of a wider WASH system. A safer source needs to be paired with clean storage, everyday hygiene and appropriate local guidance.

Follow qualified local advice on treatment

Water-treatment needs depend on the source and conditions. Ask the relevant WASH authority for suitable treatment guidance and follow approved product instructions. This resource does not replace water-quality testing or technical advice.
